Choosing The Best Lay Up For Your Custom Surfboard
by Paul Malixi
It's important to choose the right glassing schedule for the type of surfing you want to do, surfboard type, and waves you intend to surf. In this article, we will break down each Infused Glass schedule and the specialty materials we offer to help make your decision process easy.
FIBERGLASS CLOTH
"E-glass" is industry standard fiberglass and is considered a strong balance between cost & performance.
"oz"The cloth weight per square yard which will help determine the final weight of the board.

High Performance Shortboards Small Grom Shortboards Fishes & Short Hybrids
Super Light layups are ideal for competitive or high performance surfing in smaller, clean, soft wind conditions. This is a construction that maximizes in keeping the board lightweight and responsive while sacrificing long-term durability. This is a good layup for lightweight groms or a very experienced surfer who is fully aware of what kind of conditions they intend to use this construction for.
PERFORMANCE

High Performance Shortboards Fishes Short Hybrids
Performance constructionis the ultimate balance between performance, flex, and durability. This construction keeps the board lightweight & flexible, all while offering a moderate amount of durability. This is a good lay up for most surfers wanting to get the most out of their high performance shortboards in everyday conditions ranging from knee high to slightly overhead+.
STRONG
6oz E glass 4oz E glass
6oz E glass
High Performance Shortboards Step Ups Fishes Hybrids Mid Lengths
Strong construction provides a bit more durability against pressures, dings, and breaks. This glass schedule is also slightly heavier providing more swing weight and the ability to keep the board down during windy conditions making it ideal for longer step ups or mid lengths. You'll find this construction to be slightly more stiff but Varial's signature flex pattern will still shine through in stronger surf, or a longer board in average conditions. We recommend this construction for those intend to surf windier/stronger surf conditions.
X-Strong is the heaviest, stiffest, and strongest construction that we offer. This construction is ideal for strong surf/wind, heavier surfers, and/or mid lengths. This construction will be built to last being our most resistant against pressures, buckles, and breaks. It's also a great option for those who like a lot of trim, glide, and swing weight out of their heavier surfboards.
See our blog fully detailing the benefits of Infused Carbon construction: Click Here Mid Lengths: We recommend adding a layer of 6oz Fiberglass Cloth to Infused Carbon mid lengths in order to increase their weight for windier conditions. You can request for this at no additional charge under the final box: " Want something special not in the options? Let us know and we'll do our best to make it happen."
S-Glass
"S-glass" is a high performance glass fiber offering more durability against pressures, bumps, & impacts and will be about 10% stiffer than its E-glass counterpart. We do not recommend stacking more than one layer on the top deck as this will stiffen up your board significantly. You can request for "S Cloth" in the final box of your custom order where it says "Want something special not in the options? Let us know we'll do our best to make it happen." S Cloth is an additional charge of $4.00 per foot.
